A seemingly forgetful woman shocked her eye doctor when she went for what was supposed to be simple cataract surgery. But the surgeon decided to postpone the operation after discovering something in her eyes. Reportedly, the doctors found 27 contact lenses in the lady’s eyeballs!
If you think I must have typed it wrong, well, I didn’t. There were really 27 contact lenses stuck in the 67-year-old woman’s eyes. 17 of which were sitting together in a bluish mass while the other 10 are mounted on her other eyeball.
How 27 Contact Lenses Got Stuck In The Woman’s Eyes
You might be wondering by now how did this happen? We can’t know for sure. But what we do know is that the old woman does not attend regular eye checkups. That should explain it, I think.
After wearing contact lenses regularly for 35 long years, the lady started feeling eye discomforts and pain. She initially thought that it could be because of the drying of her eyes and her old age. Having said that, she decided to go to an eye doctor who told her she needs a cataract surgery.
Even at her 60s, the woman was determined to undergo the surgery to better her eyesight. And of course, to rid her eyes of pain. However, as the surgeons prepared her for the cataract operation, a unique bluish mass surprised them.
The presence of the bluish mass in the lady’s eyes is obviously not normal. But what shocked the doctors most are the 17 contact lenses stuck together in it.
How Doctors Reacted
Speaking to Optometry Today, a specialist trainee ophthalmologist Rupal Morjaria revealed that it’s the first time they encountered such case. “None of us have ever seen this before. It was such a large mass. All the 17 contact lenses were stuck together,” Morjaria said.
Furthermore, the soon to be ophthalmologist also shared that they were dumbfounded that the woman felt no irritation from it. “We were really surprised that the patient didn’t notice it because it would cause quite a lot of irritation while it was sitting there,” she explained.
