A mommy calico cat will do her best to protect her unborn child. Even if it means begging a family to take her in to give her kitten a safe place to thrive in its first days of life.
Gemma is a stray calico cat, which was seemingly lost or abandoned by her real owners. She was just a simple and regular kitty that roams around the village looking for food and shelter.
But after months of just walking the neighborhood, the feline apparently got pregnant. Let’s not dwell too much on how it happened, shall we?
Then came the day when a family spotted Gemma in an alley near Keele and Lawrence in Toronto. This sweet bunch of people provided food for the stray calico twice a day for weeks.
The pregnant feline is sure very thankful to this family for being so generous in the past days. But the mommy cat knows she has to do more for her unborn kitty. She had to move in with that family as her baby is soon to come out.
Having said that, the stray calico pushed herself into the family’s house. She made the gesture of begging those people to take her in by remaining at the door.
Because the cat appeared too demanding, the family thought it really needed a place to stay in. They couldn’t refuse the feline’s request especially when they saw its growing belly.
That said, the kind-hearted family finally took Gemma in. And just a little later following her move in, the calico mom gave birth to her unique litter.
I said it’s unique because unlike other felines, Gemma only birthed a single kitten. With her pregnant belly so huge, who would have thought there’s only one baby inside?
But though she only released a single kitty, Gemma seemed to be exhausted with her birthing process. So a friend of the family who took her in, Lillian Szilagy, arranged for her to be sent to an experienced fosterer.
