The University of Seattle and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center found that DNA from men may be transferred to the women they have sex with. What’s interesting is, the researchers only figured this out accidentally during a study they conducted to identify the susceptibility of a woman to neurological diseases that are most common among men.

This may sound unbelievable but women can actually keep a sexual partner’s DNA inside her for quite a long period of time. The shocking findings revealed that women’s brains harbor “male microchimerism.” Ooops! Microchimerism, what?

I was startled when I heard about microchimerism. Well, I am just a commoner who loves Netflix, watching the news, reading novels and magazines but I am no scientist or chemist or anything related to the medical field. But I love Science and learning so I consulted the internet to find the meaning of that new vocabulary.

Well, Wikipedia says “Microchimerism is the presence of a small number of cells that originate from another individual and are therefore genetically distinct from the cells of the host individual. This phenomenon may be related to certain types of autoimmune diseases; however, the mechanisms responsible for this relationship are unclear.” Woah! Sounds interesting!

In another site called Microchemirism.org, it defines the term as “the harboring of small numbers of cells that originated in a genetically different individual.” Both websites gave me similar definition so I figured that the term simply means there are alien cells inside an individual’s body.

Now let’s go back to the riveting revelation of “male microchimerism” in the study of The University of Seattle and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Well, what they found out is that women’s brains can be more mysterious than we thought it could be. They saw traces of men’s DNA in the brains of the 63 percent of their subjects. That is equal to 37 girls out of 59.

And due to this enthralling observation, the researchers were itched to know where the male DNA came from. This is no clickbait but the answer will surprise you!
