If you are one of those who curse and swear, well you might be more trustworthy than your friends who don’t. Swearing can be associated with honesty according to a recent study. See below for why!
Published in the Journal of Social, Psychological and Personality Science, a new research study claims that those with a “dirty mouth” could be more honest. Why? Because swearing is said to be a form of self expression. Have you noticed that many people say f*ck or sh*t during sudden and difficult situations? That’s because saying f*ck or sh*t is a means of expressing an emotion.
In the recent study conducted by researchers, they found that people who swear or curse more are portraying themselves with high levels of integrity and honesty. The research actually covered 276 subjects who shared how much they use swear words daily. The conductors also provided them with a questionnaire to assess their honesty.
The researchers made use of a so called “Lie Scale” to determine how honest the participant is and compared it to the individual’s level of cursing or swearing. Interestingly, the findings suggested that those who curse often are more trustworthy than those who do it minimally or not at all.
The study didn’t end there though. The researchers utilized Facebook to gather data on how much a person swears. Around 73,000 Facebook posts were examined through a software that automatically detects swear words and those words that present deception. The result showed that those who used swear words apparently told the truth.
