Maybe one of the most heartbreaking events in a dog’s life is to part from his (or her) owner. Any animal who grew up with human friends and families must know the feeling of losing them.
However, there are situations wherein owners really need to make the choice of leaving their pets to animal care centers. And no matter what their reasons are, a four-legged furry friend will always be left, sorrowful and lonely.
But if you think this could be the saddest that can happen to them, well, there’s more despairing than seeing owners leave them permanently. That’s when their once family returned, only to find another dog to take in. It hurts, not just for the dog, but even for the volunteers taking care of animals in the shelter.
The Story of Zuzu
Zuzu is a 2-year-old German Shepherd mix whose life changed when she first step foot at the Downey Animal Care Center. And what’s more saddening is, her original owners sent her to the facility during Christmas season, when everyone is supposed to be happy.
However, Zuzu has to suffer this fate because her old family no longer wants to take care of her. Apparently, she never stopped crying and became very depressed after her father died. For this reason, her owners ditched her and left her at the animal center.
Poor Zuzu found herself surprised as she woke up at Downey Animal Care Center where she can’t find her family. She didn’t take it very well but thanks to an animal volunteer, Desi Lara, helped the dog recover.
After spending her first few days in the center, Lara decided to allow Zuzu participate in a dog introduction program. And this is what sparked change in the dog’s life.
Zuzu Spotted Her Owner
Expecting that Zuzu will enjoy mingling with other dogs, Lara carried the abandoned animal to the event. Surprisingly, the German Shepherd mix suddenly barked loudly and wagged her tail, showing excitement. Little did Lara knew that the dog was acting in such a way because she spotted her owner at the center.
