You may have seen a lot of videos on how to transfer a photo onto canvas, clothes and even bags. But the tutorial I have for you today is something different. If you want to spend some art or DIY time with your kids or friends this weekend, read on. I will share to you how to transfer your amazing images onto wood.
Yes, you read that right! Today, I will detail here how to transfer a photo onto wood. Exciting isn’t it? So let’s get started!
Here are the materials you’ll need:
- Your photo
- A piece of wood
- Mod podge or gel medium
- Fine sandpaper
- A hard plastic car
- A paintbrush
- Aerosol wood oil or varnish
Here are the steps:
Find a photo you like to use in your project. Have it printed on a photo paper. Or if you already have a printed image you want to transfer onto wood, the better.
Tip: It’s best to use a photo that has a warm tone. It looks better on wood than bright colored images. If you have time, you can adjust the saturation of your picture using a photo editor before printing.
Now, you need to find a shop where they can photocopy your printed picture through laser printing. As much as possible, use a thin paper or the basic one that’s 80gms.
Look for wood that will match the size of your photo. You have a lot of options here. You can buy a cheap wooden chopping board or head to the hardware store to see if they have some nice and straight pieces of wood. Make sure to pick the one that’s already polished using sandpaper.
If you want a more creative artwork, you can look into your stuff. Maybe you have wooden boxes you want to personalize with a picture. You can also transfer a photo on your guitar. But if you decide to do these, you need to sand the surface first to get rid of any varnish or dirt.
