Have you noticed how your pet cats act around cucumbers? Well luckily for my kitty, she has not encountered the long and green vegetable in her life. But it is just recent when I found out that most felines are startled by this yummy and nutritious goody. Do you wonder why?
It is a known fact that cats are very curious animals that constantly inspect things around them. In addition, they, too, are solitary creatures, which causes them to become easily baffled by anything.
With these two inborn qualities combined, felines are known to be inquisitive with whatever is in front of them. At the same time, they are highly likely to act suspicious or even fear something that’s unfamiliar to them.
It is for these reasons why cucumber, a huge, elongated, green vegetable startles a kitty. Because of the size and the striking overall appearance of the food, cats are normally baffled when they see it.
This explanation is from an animal behavior specialist Dr. Roger Mugford. He said that felines would find it surprising to see an object that suddenly appeared behind them while they bow down eating their meal.
To put in other words, it is common for cats to be startled when they see anything that pops up unknowingly. And this is because of their innate quality. It doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with them or there’s something with cucumbers. Maybe it’s just them, you know.
Moreover, if you have been around cats for quite some time, you’ll notice how they get surprised with less effort. They startle when they hear a loud noise, when they see sparkling, colorful lights, and when the lights suddenly lit.
Have you observed these in your pet? I honestly think it’s funny when the over react on simple things.
But I never intend to cause any fear to them. Whenever I notice my cats reacting differently about things around us, I talk to them and give them comfort immediately. They are my babies too!
