A mother cat walked through flames in order to save her five kittens trapped inside a burning building. Carrying each kitty one by one out of the facility, the pain and wounds her skin endured from the heat didn’t matter to this feline. But as it turns out, the incident was just the beginning of her final days together with her babies.
Recently, we have shared here some stories of mommy animals that are sweet and inspiring. So I thought why not share the epic story of a stray cat who caught the attention of media and almost the whole of New York back in 1996?
Most of you might have heard about this tale already. But for those who are clueless what I am talking about, I am glad to share the story below.
Scarlet is a stray calico who lived in an abandoned Brooklyn garage with her five kittens. About four weeks after giving birth, a fire broke out in the building, which caused the feline’s harrowing battle against the flames.
The fire took everyone by surprise, including the momma calico. Her kittens were inside the garage when the facility was caught in a fiery blaze.
So with all the courage and bravery inside her heart, she walked through the flames for five times to pick up her kitties one by one. Five times! But she didn’t mind the burning pain and wounds the fire left her body in the process.
And when finally she got the last kitten out of the building, she lined them all and counted them. She then touched each of the kitties with her nose to make sure they were fine. After this gesture, she collapsed and went unconscious.
Walking through the flaming garage injured the mommy calico cat. The firefighters who sighted everything revealed that the feline was badly scorched with her ears and eyes burned red and her paws singed. Thankfully, when the fire was extinguished, a volunteer took Scarlet and her litter to the North Shore Animal League America where the felines were given medical care.
